Dear Singapore Medical Council,


TTSH Orthopaedic doctor Dr Tan Tong Leng 13941F refused to perform knee replacement surgery for Mr. Teo En Ming.


Please refer to attached right knee MRI scan report and all the other attached medical documents from Tan Tock Seng Hospital in this email.


According to the right knee MRI scan report, there is SEVERE osteoarthritis in my right knee. As shown in attached MRI scan images of my right knee, there is a 0.51 cm hole in my right knee cap. Besides the right knee, there is osteoarthritis in my left knee as well.


I have seen Dr Tan Tong Leng 13941F on 9 Oct 2024 and 14 Nov 2024. On both dates, he refused to perform knee replacement surgery for me.


May I know why I am not allowed to have knee replacement surgery now??????????


I am already 46 years old. Most people who are over 40 years old have extreme difficulty looking for jobs.


Apparently I cannot wait for the condition of both my knees to progressively worsen and WAIT to have a knee replacement surgery at 65 years old. Which company will want to hire someone who is 65 years old even though he can walk after knee replacement surgery??


Already at 46 years old, I cannot stand and walk for long hours. Most of the jobs in Singapore require standing and walking for long hours. Unless I can find a job which allows me to be seated all the time, every day. But these jobs are rare and difficult to find.


Therefore do you see the urgency to have the knee replacement surgery soon instead of waiting until I am 65 years old??


What if I cannot live until 65 years old?? I have schizophrenia (mental illness). According to Wikipedia, people with schizophrenia will have their life span/expectancy cut short by 20-30 years. If the average life expectancy is about 80 years, many people with schizophrenia will die at about 50 years old.


I want to be able to stand and walk for longer hours NOW, instead of waiting until I am 65 years old.


Even when I flew to Taiwan Adult Expo (sex exhibition) for a holiday in August 2024, I had to bring a $13 foldable chair. I need to sit down frequently on the $13 foldable chair because I have no endurance for standing and walking for long hours at the Taiwan Adult Expo in August 2024, brought forth by osteoarthritis in both of my knees. Hence I need to bring the $13 foldable chair from Singapore to Taiwan in my August 2024 holiday trip.


I am looking forward to a reply and decision from the Singapore Medical Council.
